[LOCKED: April, DBFS Journals] Vortex Traps Aftermath

When Yugi turns up in the Nexus to meet April, he looks considerably more battered than he ever has before, bandages wound around one arm and several cuts on his face held shut with those little white medical strips they use for small cuts. One of his legs bounces nervously, and he's rubbing at his bandaged arm. He's twirling what appears to be a Tarot card—or at least, something superficially similar to a Tarot card—between two fingers. Yami is nowhere in sight—for now.

"Hello Edward." April smiles softly.

Ed grimaces. "Gah, just Ed. Whenever someone calls me 'Edward' I tend to think I'm in some kind of trouble."

One of the odd things April may notice about him is the metal prosthetic taking the place of his right arm. Currently he's wearing only trousers and a sleeveless black shirt, so she may spot the foot of his prosthetic left leg as well

"Ed! Manners. Invite them in," calls Kat's voice from somewhere in the kitchen. Ed grumbles, steps aside, and makes a curt gesture for them to enter.

"Thank you." Once again, being invited in is a relief to her. April enters, looking around the apartment. For her, it has not been that long since she was here last.

It's not as chaotic as it was last time; Kat seems to have mostly unpacked by now. April may note that the calendar stuck to the fridge is now on the "June" page: it's been 6 months for them.

"Evening, April," Kat says cheerfully. "Be with you in a second; making dinner for Ed, who apparently can't cook worth a damn even though 'alchemy started in the kitchen'."

Ed snorts, flopping onto the love seat. "State alchemists tend to focus on the combat applications of the science, ya know."

"I remember," Kat notes. She turns away from the stove for a moment and pokes her head over the counter. "Get you guys anything?"

"Still all non-caffeinated soda?" Yugi asks.

"Duh."

He sighs. "Cola, then."

April does note the calendar. "Six months? You were gone for six months?"

That was a shock for her. She thought time would go faster for her, than them. And it was the opposite.

"We were gone for a few days," Yugi corrects her. "It's been six months since you last visited." He frowns for a moment, surveying her. "Actually, how long has it been for you? Thought you'd've been much bigger by now." Ed arches an eyebrow at the comment but doesn't say anything. Yet.

"It has only been a week." A tough week for April. But still...

((I have to go paint for a couple hours. Be back tonight))

"Yikes," Yugi says. "I thought your reality was the one that ran faster than ours."

"Could be a fluke," Kat points out. "One-time discrepency." She smiles a bit and nods at Ed, who is currently rubbing at his temples as if starting to get a headache. "We can worry about it later, I think we're giving Ed a headache."

"I thought so too."

April frowned. Glancing at Yugi at that, wondering if Ed didn't know about the Nexus, or just didn't believe.

Picking up on the unasked question, Yugi answers, "No, he doesn't know about the Nexus, but I think it's the time discrepancy more than anything else."

"That's about right," Ed grumbles as Kat sets a plate bearing two grilled cheese sandwiches on it on the coffee table in front of him. Ed pounces on the food and starts scarfing it down. "What's the Nexus?" he asks between bites.

If it isn't obvious, Ed's manners are a bit... lacking.

Do I need to hide what I am Yugi? Because I don't know if I can anymore... April asks psychically.

April didn't want to answer the question, learning from the last time she did that it was a mistake.

No, Yugi answers. Ed's still a bit skeptical about the supernatural, but he fought alongside us during Contessa's traps and had plenty of encounters with it. Plus, he seems to be the kind of guy who judges people based on their deeds and not on what they are. And, he's just moved in with a woman he knows is a vampire.

From what I've gathered, Yami adds, his primary issue is wanting to come up with a rational explanation for the existence of the supernatural, even when one doesn't exist.

In regards to Ed's question, Kat answers, "We'll tell you later, Ed. You've got enough on your plate right now." She flicks a glance to his literal plate, and adds, dryly, "No pun intended."

Good. After what I went through... April rests a hand on her stomach. And bites her lip to hold back a few tears. The others in the room won't know why she feels like crying.

"Where are you from Ed?" It is a safe enough question.

Ed pauses with the second sandwich mid-way to his mouth, catching the wibbly expression on April's face. His own expression turns somewhat more sober, and he answers, voice quiet, "From... from a country called Amestris." He debates just how much of the details to tell for a moment, shrugs, and adds, "It's actually on another planet. Apparently my countrymen and I are descended from a bunch of humans that got uprooted from Earth and placed on a new planet."

"That is pretty interesting." April smiles softly. The tears come and go easily. Partly because of the pregnancy.

Meanwhile, Kat is banging her head gently against the counter. "Ed," she says, "it's alright in this instance, April's In The Know, but that's not always the answer you want to give. We're going to have to work on a cover story for you."

"What?" Ed asks, bewildered. "We're so far ahead of where Daniel and the rest of SG-1 were. I assumed people knew there was life on other planets."

"Well for the most part, they don't," Kat answers, "no-one's found any concrete proof, and Stargate Command has always been a very well-kept secret. So careful next time."

Ed rolls his eyes, turns back to April, and says, "Anyway, as we advanced we developed the science of alchemy and a few other forms of technology; for instance, my prosthetics." He lifts his Auto-Mail arm and holds it out to April for her to examine as he finishes off his last sandwich.

"I was never one for science." April admits softly. Mostly those with science are the ones who doubt her abilities first. After all, a psychic is usually doubted by those in the scientific field.

"Does your prosthetic do anything, besides function as an arm?"

True, and Ed would initially be very skeptical of her abilities; but, having gone through the Vortex Traps and experienced many supernatural phenomena first hand, he'd also give her a chance to prove it to him.

Ed nods, grinning. "If you're an alchemist, yes it does." He then claps his hands together and passes his left hand over the prosthetic; what appears to be blue lightning erupts along the length of his arm, shaping the coverplate over his forearm into a long, wickedly sharp, pointed blade.

"That must have been a good weapon to have during your ordeals. Especially in Sunnydale."

The grin remains, though it fades slightly. "Yeah. It's this and/or a transmuted spear as my primary melee weapons."

"That, and a tendency to weaponize your surroundings," Kat adds with a laugh. She points at him, smirking at April. "This kid is a certified master of the Ass Pull. You'll never meet a better improviser. He's been known to take the ground beneath his feet and turn it into a cannon."

"And a shield against a Gatling gun," Ed adds cheerfully.

"Well I am glad you were with the others then."

"So are we," Kat agrees. Ed snorts, claps his hands together again, and returns the cover plate on his arm back to its usual shape. Then he leans back against the love seat, letting out a satisfied sigh, apparently full.

April is not sure what to say or do for a moment. She has questions, but is not sure how many of them she can ask.

"Kat, how have your adjustments been going?"

Kat's expression sobers somewhat. "Kind of... I don't know. Something happened in Egypt that..." She chews gently on her lower lip, then says, "The sorceress there overrode all of the safeguards you put in place. A sort of magically-induced Frenzy. We managed to get them put back into place, but..."

"That can be difficult, when someone else messes with your mind." April spoke softly.
